Like the delicious, value-priced Cab that Sam Sheehan makes under the Ultraviolet Label, the Zinfandel is equally delicious and fairly priced. Grapes from entirely from the organic Mattern Vineyard in Mendocino County, and these old vines give us a Zin with lots of personality.
Fermented with native yeasts, Ultraviolet’s Zinfandel spends 12 months in neutral French Oak barrels, and this aging softens up the acid/tannin structure of the wine. The result is a medium-bodied, silky smooth Zin with classic notes of brambly berries, peppery spice, anise, and a bit of toasty, smoky oak.
