The 2021 Robert Craig Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is a towering example of the style. Grown from nearly 50-year-old vines planted at roughly 2,300 feet in elevation, this is classic mountain Cabernet loaded with depth, concentration, and unmistakable Howell Mountain character. Inky-dark and intensely aromatic, it offers up notes of crème de cassis, blackberry, mulberry, crushed rock, lavender, mountain herbs, and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, structured, and beautifully layered, this is already drinking wonderfully with a couple hours in a decanter, but it also possesses the balance and backbone to evolve gracefully for years to come.
