Chiara Penati and Michele Conoscente run the show at Oltretorrente in Paderna, within the Piemonte region of Italy. Originally from Milan, the couple are now working entirely organically with vines aging from 15 to 100 years old. Their multiple bottlings of red and white blends, and single varietal bottlings of Barbera and Timorasso.
Here we have their Timorasso, coming from a combination of a 20 year old vineyard and some newer vineyards. Fermented in stainless steel, the fruit then sees aging in concrete for roughly 10 months. Beautiful orchard fruits of pear and apple, citrus oils, dried honey, and a great saline minerality. A very compelling wine that rewards attention but by no means requires it.
