The Pato family are synonymous with greatness when it comes to non-fortified Portuguese wines. Joao Pato made his first wines in 1970, making him the first grower and producer in the Bairrad region, and his son Luis continues that legacy today. Luis does not follow any rules, and he is constantly experimenting with new varieties and new ways of making his wines.

Luis is a master of Baga, one of Portugal's native red varieties. Typically, Baga-based wines are quite rustic and super tannic, but this Pato's version takes it to another level. With its savory nose of wood spice, amaro, cedar, pepper, and crushed dark berries, and elegant tannins, this is drinking well now, but it will reward those with patience. Serve with wild game, roasted lamb, or long, slow-braised stews. YUM!
