Jean Royer 'Prestige' Chateauneuf du Pape
Since the 1800s the Royers have been growing grapes in the southern part of Chateauneuf du Pape. After his father tragically passed aged 38, Jean-Marie's mom started leasing their land in order to have a consistent income. In 1982, aged 18, he began to study oenology. In 1986 he began both the processes of getting back the land that was leased out, and began buying land as well. Now Domaine Royer has 12 hectares in Chateauneuf du Pape.
Royer's 'Prestige' Cuvee is composed of fruits coming from their Bois de la Ville, Les Grandes Serres, and La Crau holdings. Ripe, concentrated, and balanced. Fruits of dried strawberry, kirsch, and brambly raspberry show with white pepper, garrigue, and toasted brown spices. A superb example of a more restrained Chateauneuf du Pape.
