Domaine Eric Louis traces its roots back to 1860, when Eric’s great-great-grandmother Pauline sold her wines at the local markets. Eric, a fourth generation grape grower, is a serious farmer in the commune of Thauvenay, which is within the Sancerre AOC. Unsurprisingly, most of his production is focused on Sancerre, but he also makes small amounts of Quincy and Pouilly-Fume.

He also makes this "Baby Sancerre" from younger Sancerre vines combined with vines from just outside the appellation. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel, and the wine is then aged on its lees for 4 months. It is then bottled, and the wine then "rests" until the following spring before it is released.

The finished wine is a triumph and one that could fool many into thinking they were drinking real-deal Sancerre. It leads with pure and zesty aromas of passion fruit, kiwi, lime, pear, green herb, and chalky mineral. On the palate, it is super fresh and enlivening, with loads of ripe citrus, green apple, and a lingering flavor of mineral.
