I absolutely love what Vincent Careme is doing with Chenin Blanc, and his Le Clos is a terrific example of why Vouvray can be so compelling. From a tiny six-acre vineyard planted to 50-60-year-old vines on clay and limestone, this is organically farmed, handpicked, and fermented with native yeast in 400-liter French oak barrels.
Apricot, truffle, honeysuckle, and cream fill the glass, with a beautiful combination of depth, freshness, and mineral energy. Serious Vouvray that drinks beautifully now and will only get better with age.
