This is the quintessential Claret, a term the British coined for Red Bordeaux that could be enjoyed on a daily basis without breaking the bank. Run by husband and wife Carolina and Xavier Perromat since 2012, the domaine comprises four hectares of vines surrounded by woods, and has a deep gravel soil above a sublayer of limestone.
The wines are a reflection of the smallest appellation in Bordeaux - Cérons, a subregion within Graves, in the southern part of Bordeaux. A blend of 50/50 Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this is classic in every way, shape, and form. It gets 12 months of aging in a mixture of new and used French barrels, and the finished wine is soulful, satisfying, and noble.
Earthy and iron-y on the nose, classic Graves, with air and agitation, it shows notes of warm blackberry, cassis, dark currant, tobacco leaf, graphite, and spice. Medium-bodied and not overly tannic, this will offer wonderful drinking over the next 5 years or so. Our advice -- enjoy it with grilled lamb!
