Chateau de Saint Lager Brouilly
Regular price $24.99Chateau de Saint Lager Brouilly comes from one of the most historic sites in Beaujolais, with roots going back to the 14th century and a long connection to the slopes around Mont Brouilly. Today, the vineyards are farmed under the direction of Chateau de Pizay, blending deep history with a more precise, modern approach. Brouilly is the largest and southernmost cru in Beaujolais, known for its rolling hills of granite and sandy soils around an ancient volcanic site, conditions that tend to produce wines with generous fruit and a nice mineral edge.
In the glass, this is vibrant, expressive, and very easy to like. You get plenty of raspberry, strawberry, and cherry, along with a touch of violet and a fresh, mineral lift. The palate is silky and medium-bodied, driven by bright red fruit with soft tannins and lively acidity. It is approachable and refreshing, but there is enough structure and savory character on the finish to keep things interesting. This is classic Brouilly, and it really overdelivers.
Decanter, 95 points: An excellent concentration of dark cherry, wild blueberry, and violet flavor with a touch of mint. Full of charm and energy. Drink 2026 through 2035.
