While their focus is on refined Brunellos, they also make a range of delicious and playful and delicious "experimental cuvées," like their Romitorio Toscana Rosso.
An avant garde blend of 50% Syrah and 50% Petit Verdot from vineyards in Scansanao, this is vinified in stainless steel and concrete. The resulting wine is a blockbuster with rich fruit. good complexity, and great length.
Wine Spectator - 94 points - "Blackberry, boysenberry, bacon fat and violet aromas and flavors highlight this supple red. Beautifully integrated, with polished tannins and lively acidity driving the fruit-stained aftertaste. Syrah and Petit Verdot. Best from 2026 through 2038. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 4,160 cases made, 2,600 cases imported."
