Paolo Cianferoni and his family farm some beautiful old Sangiovese vines in Radda in Chianti, one of the most beautiful areas in the world and one of the highest quality production zones in all of Tuscany. All of the farming is organic, the winemaking is super traditional, and the finished wines are soulful and highly sought after.

Caparsa's Riserva Caparsino is an inspiring bottle of Sangiovese, and it's nice that this "library release" from the winery has 8 years of age on it already. Antonio Galloni reviewed it in 2020, and said the following:

"The 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Caparsino is gorgeous, but it also needs at least a few years in the cellar to be at its best. Bright acids lend energy to this super-classic, structured Riserva. Deceptively light in structure, the 2017 packs a good deal of punch. Dark cherry, dried herbs, cedar, leather, tobacco and mint hint as to how the Riserva will develop in the bottle. Drinking Window: 2025 - 2037."

Well, it's 5 years later, and this limited, library release that was aged at the winery, has come together beautifully. To be able to pay less than $50 for a pre-aged, highly-rated wine from one of the best producers in the appellation is almost unheard of....until now! Furthermore, the handful of 2017 Chiantis that Galloni scored higher than this all hit retail price points of $75 to $200.
