Via Alpina is the "side hustle" of famed Friulian vigneron Giampaolo Venica, of Venica & Venica fame. He is sourcing and buying fruit from the best young growers of the region. His 2022 Sauvignon Blanc is a huge success.
The warm and sunny days of Friuli give us wonderful concentration, the cool nights provide refreshing acidity, and the rocky soils provide mineral complexity. All of those virtues are on display here. Offering up Sancerre-like notes of green pear, green apple, flowers, and herbs, this is a very attractive wine that is grossly underpriced.
