Vallana Spanna Colline Novaresi 500 ml

Those who love Piemonte reds know that Vallana is one of the legendary producers of the northern, Alto Piemonte. The Vallana family name first shows up in connection to winemaking in Alto Piemonte in 1787. Five generations of the family have made wine at the present estate. Today, Giuseppina Vallana and her children Marina, Miriam and Francis handle all aspects of viticulture and winemaking.

In this neck of the woods, Nebbiolo often goes by the name Spanna. Specifically, the  Colline Novarese DOC is characterized by old vines and high altitude vineyards yielding focused and fragrant red wines. Vallana's 2019 is absolutely gorgeous, offering up complex notes of crushed flowers, ripe red berries, mint, and anise. For those who want to experience Nebbiolo in its purest form, you've got to try this.

Please note this comes in a 500 ml bottle, and that was the winery's choice. They now bottle this wine in 500 ml and 1.5 L bottles. When you're one of the top producers in Northern Italy, you can bottle in whatever you'd like :)
