Three Wine Company Zinfandel 'Evangelho Vineyard'
“Three” Wine Company is much more than a business. It is a family winery focused on sustainable growing, coupled with a hands-on wine experience. Winemaker Matt Cline’s philosophy is that: the dirt, the micro-climate, and sustainable wine growing (from vineyard to bottle) form the cornerstone of good winemaking, and is in every bottle “three” produces.
This Zinfandel is from ancient vines in Contra Costa County. The 2017 Evangelho Zinfandel is a blend of 86.5% Zinfandel, 8.5% Petite Sirah, 4% Mataro, and 1% Alicante Bouschet.
Over 125-years-old, the Evangelho vineyard is still being dry-farmed and is growing on its own roots. There is a concentration of ripe blackberries and spice with a minerality (dusty berry) sneaking through. The Petite Sirah adds structure, color, black fruit and white pepper character. The Mataro adds complex fruit, dried herb flavors, and a fleshy mouthfeel. Drink now or age 7 to 10 years
