San Lorenzo Alto is the inspired collaboration between photographer Clay McLachlan and Luca and Alfredo Roagna, the legendary Barbaresco and Barolo producers behind Roagna. What began as Clay’s dream to grow world-class Nebbiolo in the Alta Langa has quickly turned into one of Piedmont’s most compelling new projects. Farmed organically and biodynamically, the wines are made with the same uncompromising attention to detail that defines the Roagna family’s greatest wines, including native yeast fermentations, long macerations, and extended aging in large neutral oak casks.

The Bellaluce Rosso comes from steep, southwest-facing vineyards planted between 610 and 650 meters above sea level in the Alta Langa hills near Bonvicino. The high elevation and cool climate give the wine incredible freshness, aromatic lift, and energy, while the long growing season allows Nebbiolo to achieve remarkable depth and complexity. Hauntingly aromatic and beautifully detailed, it flows with notes of rose petal, tart cherry, wild strawberry, orange peel, mountain herbs, and crushed rock minerality. Medium-bodied, nervy, and deeply soulful, this is singular Nebbiolo that leaves a lasting impression.
