Punset Barbaresco Riserva 'Basarin'

This strident traditionalist is based in Neive, and Marina Marcarino led the charge in Barbaresco towards organic and biodynamic farming. Today, Marina carefully and meticulously makes the wines from her family's vineyards with minimal intervention. She also keeps an extensive "library" of older wines, and we are delighted to be able to offer this one at such a fair price.

Sourced from the Basarin Cru—one of the more sheltered sites in Neive known for its warmer exposures and calcareous-clay soils—the wine reflects this vineyard's hallmark approachability and aromatic finesse, yielding a Barbaresco that is both expressive in its youth and capable of evolving with nuance over time.

The 2017 Punset Basarin Barbaresco opens with lifted aromas of dried rose petals, red cherry, and orange peel layered with hints of anise, forest floor, and sweet spice; on the palate, it shows a graceful balance of bright red fruit and savory earth tones, with fine, resolved tannins and a lingering finish marked by tea leaf, leather, and a touch of truffle.
