Masseria Starnali 'Conte Di Galluccio' Galluccio Rosso

Luigi Ferrara of Masseria Starnali has "the touch" with Aglianico, one of the top varieties grown in Southern Italy. His vineyards are literally on the side of an ancient volcano, and from extreme sites come extremely delicious wines. The estate is certified organic and biodynamic, harvesting is done by hand, fermentations are completed with native yeasts, and the wines are bottled with minimal sulfur.

Starnali's Conte Di Galluccio is the estate's top wine. From a high elevation site that is harvested late, it sees 12 month of aging in cask, and it is reminiscent of a top Aglianico from Taurasi or Vulture. Almost Nebbiolo-like with its aromas of flowers, pepper, exotic spices, and blackberry, it is a powerful wine to drink now with hearty meals or to lay down for a decade or longer.
