JAX Vineyards is a small, family-owned and operated, Calistoga-based winery, and for 20 years, their Cabs have been crafted by Kirk Venge. Grapes come from pedigreed sites in Napa and Sonoma, and the wine sees 18 months of aging in French oak.
The finished wine is ripe, opulent, and delicious. Full-bodied and rich, it displays hedonistic notes of warm dark cherry, cassis, plum, mocha, espresso, and oak spice. Smooth, round, and supple, it goes down a bit too easy.
Wine Enthusiast - 93 points - "It combines the best sites to create a full-bodied, rich, earthy wine with deep, dark plum, huckleberry, black olive, and dried oregano on the nose. The palate is layered with concentrated Blackberry, espresso crema, cinnamon, and supple tannins on the finish. Decant this and pair with Pot Roast."
