This is my top red wine of 2023, and it's a world-class Cab from Washington's Walla Walla Valley. Just 200 cases were produced, and I was lucky to snag 7 of those for Table Wine customers. Produced entirely from the Octave Vineyard, just north of the famed Seven Hills Vineyard, this rocky, windy, and unforgiving site provided the "raw materials" to make a world-class Cab in the wonderful 2019 vintage.
Mainly Cabernet Sauvignon with splashes of Malbec and Merlot, Hanatoro is aged for 21 months of aging in fine-grained barrels from the top cooperages in France. Heavenly on the nose, with a mix of cassis, currant, cinnamon, mocha, and mint, the palate is equally impressive. Dense and rich, there's good lift to the dark fruit flavors of spiced plum, black fig, and layers of dark chocolate, cigar box, and complex spice. 100 points - Josh Spurling
