Ryan Deovlet is one of the Central Coast's most talented winemakers. A protege of Richard Sanford, the pioneer of the Santa Rita Hills AVA, Deovlet crafts beautifully balanced and nuanced wines from top sites in and around Santa Barbara.
His Pinot Blanc comes from a vineyard planted by Sanford in 2000. The site is on the south side of the appellation, immediately west of the Sanford & Benedict Vineyard, some seven miles from the ocean. With the 2018 vintage, he began to age part of this wine in 500-liter sandstone clay jars (amphora), as well as steel barrels and one-year oak barrels. ML is blocked and after eight months of aging the wine is racked into steel assemblage tanks for another two months and then bottled.
One of the finest Pinot Blancs we've ever tasted, this one shines with purity. Notes of green apple, pear skin, white florals, lime and saline minerality all make an appearance in this steely, bright, and zesty white. Drink now and over the next 5 to 7 years.
