Dana Estates 'Vaso' Cabernet Sauvignon

We are one of the lone North Carolina retailers to stock the debut vintage of this stunning Napa Valley Cab. All-star winemaker Chris Cooney handles winemaking for this ambitious estate, with Philippe Melka in a consulting role. Most of the fruit for their 2015 Vaso Cab comes from Hershey Vineyard, high atop Howell Mountain.

The resulting wine is not only a great value (relatively speaking), it's also drinking incredibly well. Aromatically complex, the 2015 Vaso captures the different terroirs and varieties of this Cabernet blend with fragrances of red currant, plums, sage, and loam, with hints of tobacco box and spices. The entry has flavors of bing cherries and dried herbs as the hillside tannins fill out the mid-palate. The wine's supple yet structured palate showcases ripe strawberry, forest floor, and minerality on the finish. Lush and approachable now, this wine will continue to develop as the years pass.
