The Nizza cru is reserved solely for Barbera production, and the zone attained DOCG status in 2014. Dacapo, a lovely, certified organic, family-run estate makes one of the reference point wines of the appellation. Produced from a single, south-facing vineyard that was planted in 1960, this south-facing site yields a measly 2 tons per acre. These low yielding vines provide intensely flavored grapes, and this is one of the biggest Barberas we've ever stocked.
Fermented and aged for 2 years in small, Allier French oak barrels, this is an impressive red for those who like their wines larger than life. Deep notes of grilled plum, cassis, dark cherry jam, anise, clove, allspice, and vanilla are all found in the bouquet of this wine. Opaque in color, the palate is equally thrilling, with fine-grained tannins and zesty acidity.
