Vallevo Coccociola

From one of Central Italy's oldest and most respected cooperatives, Cantina Frentana is based in Abruzzo. While they certainly make very good Montepulciano and Trebbiano, the two most planted varieties of the region, we are quite partial to their Cococciola, one of the rarer white grapes in all of Italy.

A grape that was traditionally blended with Trebbiano, in more recent years it's become a "headlining" grape and for good reason. Often compared to Sauvignon Blanc, we get that comparison, as Cococciola is bright, crisp, and fresh. However, we find it to have its own distinct personality, and we love it. Look for notes of melon, pear, ripe citrus, herb, and spice, and enjoy with spicy Asian dishes or clams steamed with garlic and white wine.
