Sandlands Lodi Zinfandel

Sandlands is the personal project of Tegan Passalacqua. The line-up encompasses the forgotten classic California varieties, primarily grown in decomposed granite (sand), from regions and vineyards that have been farmed for many generations but have remained the outliers of California viticulture. Primarily head-trained, dry-farmed and own rooted, the vineyards we work with harken back to California’s roots of exploration, wonder, and hard work. 

Tegan's 2021 Lodi Zinfandel comes from the famed Kirschenmann Vineyard. Located on the east side of Lodi's Mokelumne River AVA, this heritage site was planted in 1915, and these old, gnarled vines continue to produce enough fruit for just a handful of wineries to work with. It shows the more elegant side of Zinfandel, but there's plenty of "stuff" going on here too. Ripe red cherry and raspberry mix with more complex notes of black tea, peppery spice, and violet to create a wonderful experience. Just 14 barrels produced.
