From France's oldest sparkling wine zone of Limoux comes this amazing value in bubbles. Passerine takes its name from the common songbirds that frequent the vineyards of Limoux, and the wines are skillfully made by Jacques Calvel of J. Laurens, one of the region's top producers.
A blend of 90% Mauzac, the traditional native grape of the region, and 10% Chardonnay, this is made exactly like Champagne. While it's not as complex as real-deal Champagne, it is a wonderful value in delicious bubbly. Fresh citrus, green apple, white flowers, and chalky mineral inform the nose and palate here.
