Anselmo Mendes grew up in Northern Portugal, and he has been involved in wine for the majority of his life. He became convinced that Alvarinho (aka Albarino) was the best grape to grow in these parts, and in 1998, he released his first wine. Today, Mendes is one of the country's greatest white wine producers.
His Alvarinho Contacto is from old vines grown near the Minho River, and the wine is fermented with a bit of skin contact, thus the "Contacto" name.
