Marco De Bartoli is a legendary figure of Sicilian wine. He revitalized artisanal Marsala production while simultaneously focusing on native and indigenous Sicilian varieties. While he passed away in 2010, his family carries on, and their Lucio Catarratto is a wonderful find in hand-crafted, exotic, and delicious Italian white wine.

Catarratto is Sicily's most planted variety, and while it can certainly yield somewhat boring wines, this is not one of them. Fermented in tank with extended lees aging, the aromas are so captivating -- ginger, spices, roasted nuts, nectarine, pear, apple, white flowers. Yes, there is a lot going on here, and this leads into a fresh, fleshy, and vibrant palate. Enjoy this wonderful white linguine and clams or sardines for a joyous wine and food pairing.
