Today, Luis is one of the most influential winemakers in the country, and he's redefining what non-fortified Portuguese wine can be.
His Maria Gomes is 100% varietal, and this grape also goes by the name Fernao Pires. Somewhat widely planted throughout Portugal, it gives us wines with a plump texture, enticing aromatics, and a crisp and refreshing personality. In the hands of a master like Luis, the grape is taken to new heights.
Offering up attractive aromas of yellow plum, dried apricot, herbal and botanical nuances, and spice, it is fresh and captivating on the palate. With some of the same nuances as a White Vermouth but not nearly as heavy or sweet at all, we are big fans.
