Domaine Jean-Marc Burgaud was created in 1989, and today cultivates 12.5 hectares of vines in Morgon, with an additional 5 hectares in Lantignie. In a time when Beaujolais was known for the easy drinking, never meant to be aged Beaujolais Nouveau, Burgaud began with the mission to craft wines that express the unique terroirs of their holdings in Morgon and Lantignie, and are of much more cerebral character and depth, and able (and sometimes meant) to be aged.

Burgaud's Cote du Py 'James' bottling is coming from the most renowned area of Morgon, the Cote du Py. The fruit for this bottling comes from parcels at the top of the Cote du Py, and is aged for 12 months in old barrels. This is made in the spirit of showcasing the power of Morgon and the aging potential that can come with that. A haunting, aromatic, and serious Beaujolais of real structure and finesse. red and dark berries of raspberry and blackberry mingle with Fruits des Bois. Red beets, forest floor, bergamot, and florals of violet are further expressive with a dark mineral character and black tea. There are times when Beaujolais can drink a great deal like red Burgundy, and even blur the lines of what that even means, this is one of those times.
