Gut Oggau 'Atanasius'
Regular price $54.99Gut Oggau is a wine project that was started in 2007 by Eduard and Stephanie Tscheppe in the small town of Oggau within Burgenland, Austria. Eduard came from a background of winemaking with his dad in Styria, and Stephanie's family owned and operated the Michelin starred restaurant Taubenkobel. They restored a 17th century winery that had been abandoned for 20 years, and immediately converted it to biodynamics. Feeling that the wines they were crafting were exhibiting distinct personalities, they decided to theme the wines around a family that really exists through their bottlings and the labels with artwork done by artist Jung von Matt.
The 'Atanasius' bottling from them is composed of Zweigelt and Blaufrankisch that are 35yrs in age, and is one of the children bottlings of their wine family. Just like all of their wines, it is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with zero sulfur addition. A medium-bodied wine focused on liveliness and exuberance, with a crunchy and wild character. Tart blueberry, blackberry, and dark cherry sit with barnyard, floral notes of violet and lavender, smoke, and sweet spice. An excellent intro into their style of winemaking and expression.
