Regular price $54.99Chilean-born Alex Guarachi came to the US on a soccer scholarship at San Jose State. After an injury that ended his sports career, he noticed there were very few wines from his home country available in the Bay Area. He decided to become an importer and started bringing some of the top wines of Chile and Argentina to the United States.
While he was an importer, he became good friends with Paul Hobbs, who was then making wines in Argentina. When Alex decided he wanted to start his winery, Paul was the first guy he called, and they remain "wine partners" to this day, as Paul Hobbs Consulting is deeply involved in the making of all of the Guarachi wines.
Their Lucas and Sophie Cab is a masterpiece in mountain-grown, Napa Valley Cab. Coming from vineyards high up on Atlas Peak, it's 100% varietal aged in new French oak for 12 months, and it's a serious find in well-priced and super classy red wine. Deeply colored, it smells of blackberry, blueberry compote, tobacco leaf, cedar, dried herbs, and rocky minerality. Soft enough to drink now but with enough tannin to warrant 10 years in a cool cellar, it's a very complete Cab.
