Jean-Marc Autran is the fourth generation of his family to run this wonderful, hard-working, and traditional estate based in Sablet. Sablet is the village directly north of Gigondas, and the sandy soils found here give us wines with a bit more elegance and nerve than those produced further south. Autran and his family farm without chemicals, they hand harvest, they ferments with native yeast in cement tanks, and they bottle with minimal fining, filtration, and sulfur.
Their Sablet Rouge is a triumphant wine that smells and tastes a lot like a top Gigondas, it's just smoother and more ready to drink upon release. A blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, this flows with aromas and flavors of brambly, spicy red and dark berries and an herbaceous rusticity that lovers of classic Rhone wines will adore.
