Domaine Lucien Crochet Sancerre 'La Croix du Roy'
We love Lucien Crochet for classic, beautifully made Sancerre, and La Croix du Roy takes things up a notch. This comes from several parcels in Bue planted on rocky Oxfordian limestone soils known as caillottes and griottes. The Crochets harvest by hand and have been farming their vineyards with a thoughtful, hands-on approach for decades. This is serious Sancerre from a family that really knows its vineyards.
La Croix du Roy is the most full-bodied and structured of Crochet's core Sancerres, with notes of black currant, white stone fruit, and bright yuzu citrus. There is a beautiful chalky minerality here, along with a pleasing touch of bitterness on the finish that keeps things interesting. We love this with seafood, goat cheese, or anything where you want a white wine with a little more weight and substance.
