Domaine La Bouissiere is the original, high-elevation Gigondas estate. Pierre Faravel was considered a madman in the 1950's and 1960's when he planted Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre at 1,600 feet in elevation, just below the Dentelles de Montmirail. At the time, it was questionable whether it was warm enough at this elevation to reach optimal ripeness. Today, that is not a concern, and Pierre's sons Thierre and Gilles take full advantage of their father's intuition.

Higher elevation means cooler and more even ripening conditions, and this is what gives this wine its classic, old-school characteristics. Much more lifted, savory, and spicy than most Gigondas' we see these days, this wine is "deliciously stuck in time," says importer Lyle Railsback. We love that quote!

La Bouissere's 2020 Gigondas is 75% Grenache, 21% Syrah and 4% Mourvedre grown in clay and limestone soils. Aged in large, neutral oak barrels and bottled without fining or filtration, this is a glorious bottle of wine. Spicy, meaty, and mineralic at first, the red and dark berry fruit fills in with air and time. Certainly hearty and robust yet fresh and vibrant, this is "Mountain Gigondas" at its finest.
