Carlos Raposo 'Impecavel' Touriga Nacional

Carlos Raposo is a rising star of Portuguese wine. Heck, he's a rising star period! After a long stint as the winemaker at Niepoort, Carlos decided to head out on his own, and he came back to the Dao region, his birthplace and the region that many refer to as the "Burgundy of Portugal."

His Impecavel Touriga Nacional shows his talents and then some. Carlos works with small growers in the cooler, northern part of the Dao, and all of the farmers he works with farm organically and biodynamically. Raposo ferments this wine in stainless steel, and the result is pretty, pure, and floral. 

John Gilman - View from the Cellar: 'The 2021 Impecável bottling from Carlos Raposo is composed entirely from Touriga Nacional. It delivers a deep and refined bouquet of dark berries, saddle leather, cigar ash, hung game, pepper, dark soil tones and just a hint of tobacco leaf in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and quite elegant for young Touriga Nacional, with fine depth at the core, excellent soil signature and grip, ripe, chewy tannins and excellent length on the well balanced finish. Carlos aims for a very gentle extraction on this wine and it really shows, as it avoids some of the heaviness that one can often find in single varietal bottlings of Touriga Nacional.'
