Raul Perez was born into a winemaking family, and he worked for his family full-time until 2003 (he still helps out) when he went out on his own. He is among the most meticulous and eccentric vignerons in the world, and his reluctance to compromise has made him both beloved and controversial. We love him!

At his own winery, he makes a range of whites and reds that showcase pure terroir and transparent varietal character. 'The white 2022 Ultreia Godello is a blend of five different plots, most of them in Cacabelos. It has a very expressive nose, with notes of yellow fruit, flowers and white pepper. It's round and fleshy, with moderate ripeness and alcohol (around 12.5%), a little balsamic with the tender mouthfeel from the riper year. It had different vinifications and élevages and comes through as complex and balanced, quite impressive for the year.' - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 93 points.
