Raul Perez was born into a winemaking family, and he worked for his family full-time until 2003 (he still helps out) when he went out on his own. He is among the most meticulous and eccentric vignerons in the world, and his reluctance to compromise has made him both beloved and controversial. We love him!

Raul's El Pecado is one of his rarest and most sought after reds. Mostly Mencia, the grape that Raul is most known for, there are smaller amounts of Bastardo, Garnacha Tintorera, and Brancellao blended in as well. It is a masterful bottle of wine that shows perfumed mineral, dried flowers, and aromatic herbs on the nose. With air and time, ripe black fruits, currants, and spicy raspberry come to the surface. Elegant, very complex, and possessing good structure, this will drink well now through 2040.

'It was produced with grapes from the Capeliños Vineyard in Ribeira Sacra. It fermented with some 40% full clusters and matured in used 228-liter oak barrels for now, but the idea is to move to larger volumes, even a foudre. It's medium-bodied, with very fine tannins and a long and clean finish. 1,200 bottles produced.' - Luis Gutierrez, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 97 points.
