Belle Pente Chardonnay Willamette Valley
Regular price $34.99Belle Pente Vineyard and Winery is a small, family-owned estate in Oregon’s Willamette Valley known for its deeply traditional, terroir-driven approach to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Founded by winemaker Jill and her late husband Brian O’Donnell in the late 1990s, the winery has built a reputation for meticulous, hands-on farming and classic, non-interventionist winemaking—favoring native fermentations, minimal new oak, and extended aging to let the vineyard speak clearly. Their estate site in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, with its marine sedimentary soils, produces wines of structure, earthiness, and finesse, often compared stylistically to old-world Burgundy rather than the riper expressions common in the New World.
Their Chardonnay gets a long elevage, and it really does hint at a Burgundian style. Jeb Dunnuck loved it, rating it 94 points: "The 2021 Chardonnay Willamette Valley pours a youthful straw color and opens with savory notes of salted lemon, raw almonds, fresh apples, and hay. The palate is full and silky, with refreshing acidity and a delicately creamy texture, followed by fantastic length and hints of hazelnut on the finish. This is a gorgeous Chardonnay, drinking well now with another 8-10 years ahead. All barrel-fermented in neutral barrels (left outside all winter), the wine is bottled just before the next vintage. From a two-acre estate, they always pick part of the vineyard early to capture fresher citrus notes, and later to capture tropical notes of mango, pineapple, and papaya."
