Arnot-Roberts' Watson Ranch Chardonnay is one of California's great cool-climate Chardonnays, sourced from a windswept vineyard overlooking San Pablo Bay in Napa Valley. Planted in the early 1990s on fractured shale and sandstone soils, Watson Ranch consistently produces fruit of remarkable tension, energy, and site transparency. Duncan Arnot Meyers and Nathan Lee Roberts let the vineyard do the talking, fermenting with native yeasts and aging the wine in neutral French oak to preserve freshness and purity rather than layering on oak flavor.
The result is a Chardonnay that combines depth with precision. Bright citrus, green apple, white peach, crushed stone, and subtle floral notes are framed by vibrant acidity and a long, saline finish that speaks to the vineyard's maritime influence. There's plenty of concentration here, but it's delivered with restraint and balance, making this just as compelling now as it will be with several years of cellaring. Pair it with roast chicken, grilled halibut, lobster, or creamy mushroom risotto.
