Torre dei Beati Cocciapazza

This Montepulciano Will Change Your Life

Torre dei Beati's Cocciapazza Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is perfection in a bottle. This is one of those once-a-year offers folks. I bought every bottle available to me, and I highly encourage you to experience this one.

I firmly believe this will be a wine that many critics and wine lovers will be talking about in the very near future. Fairly new to the United States and brought to us by Jay Murrie of Piedmont Wine Imports, this easily competes with top-flight Brunellos and Chianti Classico Riservas.

"My thoughts veer from every denigrating thing I’ve read or heard about this grape is a lie to these are forms of wine enjoyment I didn’t know possible.” - Jay Murrie - Piedmont Wine Imports

What else really needs to be said here folks? This is everything I look for in a wine and more. Family-run estate, certified organic, soaring aromatics, and pleasure-bent palate. If you ever wanted to go out and open your own wine shop, all I can say is buy wines like this.

Torre dei Beati is not a new winery, but their wines are fairly new to the United States. Still under-the-radar on the East Coast, trust me, that status is about to change. We carry two other wines from this perfectly-run estate, and every wine they make is compelling, attention-catching, and most importantly, delicious.

For those who think the Montepulciano grape cannot produce world-class wines, THINK AGAIN! This has all of the "stuff" of a $100+ Italian red, but like I said, it's still an unknown entity in "these parts." 100% Montepulciano, produced from vines planted in 1972, this one sees 20 months of aging in French barriques, 1/3 new, 1/3 one year old, and 1/3 2 years old.

The resulting wine possesses surreal depth and complexity, along with wonderful harmony of extraction and alcohol. That's right, this is a concentrated and big red wine that drinks with incredible ease....be careful. The aromas of blackberry, black cherry, clove, allspice, and cocoa lead into a ripe and fine-grained palate of pure bliss. The finish, thankfully, is long.

I bought Jay's last 12 cases of this one, and once those 144 bottles are gone, we'll wait for the 2019 to arrive. Needless to say, get on this one folks!
