2022 Domaine des Chasseignes Sancerre Blanc

The Return of Affordable Sancerre: 2022 Domaine des Chasseignes Sancerre

Domaine des Chasseignes' Sancerre isn't just an insane value, it's also drop dead gorgeous. This smallcertified organic estate's wines are now being imported by our friends at the Haw River Wine Man. That means we're able to buy this at the "direct-import" price and pass the savings on to you.

If you love Sancerre as much as I do, I'm sure you've noticed that prices are up on this famed Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. Unfortunately, it's just a case of simple economics at play here -- supply is not meeting demand, and it's become increasingly difficult to find good Sancerre for less than $35.

Great vintage, wonderful estate, incredible quality-to-price ratio!

I've got some good news for you -- I found one, and it's better than good. It's GREAT! My buddy and importer Mike Tiano had this at a restaurant in Paris last year, was blown away by the quality, and he's now importing the wines from this awesome, wife- and husband-run estate.

He brought this to the shop for me to taste last week, and it completely surpassed my expectations. This is very expressive on the nose, with notes of pear, green apple, pineapple, white flowers, lime zest, and mineral. Equally appealing on the palate, this is concentrated, refreshing, and long on the finish. So much deliciousness at such a great price.....

Aurore Dezat and her husband David Girard make wines on the estate that was founded by Dezat's grandfather. Their vineyards span all of the great and classic terroirs of Sancerre -- limestone, clay, and silex (flint). Contained within this bottle is a taste of all of these different soils and exposures, and the finished wine is pure and extremely balanced. BRAVO!

To my palate, this is the best Sancerre value in the world. I think when you get this home, get it chilled, and get it into your glass, you will wholeheartedly agree. No food required for this one, but it would love light and elegant fare like trout in a white wine and butter sauce, sashimi, and creamy goat cheeses.

I'd like to say we'll have a never-ending supply, but I know that's not going to be the case. If it sounds like your glass of wine, I would not wait too long to order.
