La Rioja Alta's Vina Alberdi Rioja Riserva was one of the first Spanish reds that ever flipped my lid. Nearly 30 years later, it still thoroughly pleases this palate, and I'm pumped to be able to offer it at a great price!

The 2020 Vina Alberdi is the world's greatest value in traditional Rioja. Founded in 1890, La Rioja Alta remains one of the benchmark estates of this historic Spanish region. Made from 100% Tempranillo grown in the estate's vineyards in the prized Rioja Alta zone, the wine is aged for two years in American oak and another couple of years in bottle before release. The result is a silky, complex Rioja that's remarkably approachable upon release but will continue to reward additional cellaring.
The 2020 is a beauty. Brilliant garnet with a vivid ruby rim, it bursts with aromas of raspberry, wild strawberry, and red currant layered with vanilla, toffee, roasted coffee, sweet spice, and that classic balsamic character that makes traditional Rioja so distinctive. Medium-bodied and impeccably balanced, it glides across the palate with fine, silky tannins, vibrant freshness, and a long, graceful finish.
Critics have been showering the 2020 with praise, and I get it. This is an outstanding Vina Alberdi, and it will offer great sipping over the next 5-7 years.
Pair it with roast chicken, grilled lamb, mushroom dishes, or a simple steak, and you'll be reminded why Viña Alberdi has been setting the standard for Rioja for generations.
