Gianluigi Lano Langhe Rosso Lanot 2019

Soulful and Enchanting Piemonte Red: 2019 Gianluigi Lano Langhe Rosso

"Piedmont" and "Value" are two words you'll rarely encounter in the same sentence, but that's exactly what you get with the 2019 Lanot Langhe Rosso. For fans of aromatic and lively, sensual reds like Barbera and Barbaresco, you need this in your glass tonight!

Simply put, this is one of the top Piemonte red wine values I have encountered in my wine career. From a tiny Barbaresco producer, this comes highly recommended from all members of Team Table Wine, especially if you love Northern Italian reds.

Barbaresco-like aromas and flavors at a fraction of the price!

$24.99/bottle -- 10% off in mixed or solid six-packs ($21.24/bottle), 20% off in mixed or solid cases ($19.99/bottle)

Goodness gracious, this is a righteous bottle of Italian red wine that drinks like one that would cost you $30+. A blend of 70% Barbera and 30% Freisa from vines within the Barbaresco DOCG, it's just got so much to offer at such a humble price. It's also got 5 years of age on it, and this is the current release!

Freisa is the key to this wine's success, as it is a close relative of Nebbiolo -- in this wine, it "behaves" a lot like Nebbiolo. It contributes lively acidity and a bit of tannin, in addition to perfumed notes of rose petal, exotic spice, and red fruits. When combined with the richer and more fruit-forward character of Barbera, it all adds up to a balanced and beautiful bottle of wine.

Medium-bodied, it offers up gorgeous aromas and flavors of spicy plum, brambly raspberry, brown spices, and flowers. Quite generous and giving on the palate, this perfectly balances that rich Barbera fruit against the tart and tangy character of the Freisa.

It also comes from a tiny family estate that obviously knows the grapes, the land, and the intricacies of the Piemonte region. For years, the Lanos simply grew grapes and sold them to larger producers. Slowly but surely, they saved their money, and their hard work paid off. In the late-1990's, they started bottling their own wines, and these days, in a good year, they'll produce a total of 2,000 cases of wine....and they make 4 different wines.

I could go on, but I think you get the point. If you want to drink a wine that rings Team Table Wine's bells, get some of this. This is custom-made for fall dishes like lamb chops, mushroom risotto, strongly flavored cheeses, and more.
