Many of you know Paul Hobbs is one of our country's most talented and visionary vignerons. Over a career spanning several decades, he has built an incredible reputation for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the best terroirs of Sonoma County.
While most of his wines carry a hefty price tag, his Crossbarn wines are considerably more affordable and accessible. And these aren't just wines with his name slapped on the label. Hobbs puts the same care into the sourcing and winemaking here that he does with his more expensive offerings.
When my sales rep alerted me that the 2024 Crossbarn Chardonnay and 2022 Crossbarn Pinot Noir were on sale, I pounced. The pricing was too good to pass up, both wines scored 90+ points with all of the major trade publications, and I can offer both at some of the best prices in the US.
Up first is the 2024 Crossbarn Chardonnay Sonoma Coast, and this is on deal for just $24.99 per bottle, with no further discounts.
This is a beautifully fresh, unoaked Chardonnay that jumps out of the glass with pear, green apple, peach, and lime zest. There is a subtle creamy and buttery edge to the fruit, but the bright acidity keeps everything crisp, refreshing, and energetic. 92 points Jeb Dunnuck, 91 Wine Enthusiast, and 90+ from the other major publications. If you like your Chardonnay bright and lively, buy more than one bottle!
Next up is the 2022 Crossbarn Pinot Noir, and this is on sale for $27.99 per bottle, with no further discounts.
This wine is really in the zone right now. Ripe but not jammy, with warm cherry, pomegranate, dried strawberry, sweet baking spices, forest floor, and crushed rose petals. Medium-bodied, succulent, and drinking beautifully. Wine Advocate gave it 93 points, Jeb Dunnuck 92, and Vinous 91. This is a very good sip of wine!
At these prices, both would make great "house wines." Damn, I never thought I'd be referring to anything made by Hobbs as a "house wine," but there you go. : )
