Brand new to the US, the wines from brothers Alexandre and Damien Bardet are about to blow up. When you taste their exquisite and classically styled Chablis, you'll understand why. Their wines are getting a lot of buzz on many of the blogs I follow, and sommeliers and wine pros are ecstatic about these wines. Unfortunately, that means supply will not meet demand in the very near future....
I was lucky to get 7 of the 14 cases that made their way to North Carolina this year, and after testing out a bottle last night, I can say with certainty that this is one of the top Chablis values out there. Just 800 cases were produced in the wonderful 2023 vintage.
I will probably regret putting this on sale.....take advantage while you can!
2023 Bardet et Fils Chablis -- Here's why you should buy it:
- Chablis' like this one are the "muse" for all un-oaked Chardonnay. It showcases freshness, energy, and minerality instead of richness, creaminess, and toasty oak.
- The Brothers Bardet work with old vines, farm organically, and make their wines with minimal intervention. Their goal is to let these old, low-yielding vines to fully express their natural character. I'd say they're achieving their goal!
- Fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel to preserve freshness and purity, this is what Chablis is supposed to taste like.
- Concentrated, intense, and showcasing classic Chablis minerality, this focused and pure Chardonnay offers up aromas and flavors of lemon, green apple, pear, citrus zest, and chalky mineral.
