"Proprietor Paolo Cianferoni makes some of the most compelling wines in all of Chianti Classico from his small hillside vineyard in Radda." - Antonio Galloni - Vinous Media
Mr. Galloni is right, and Caparsa is the Tuscan producer everyone is talking about. We're very lucky in North Carolina. The wines are brought to us by Durham-based Jay Murrie of Piedmont Wine Imports. That means we buy direct from the importer, and we're able to offer this up at a very fair price.
We were "early adopters" of Paolo's wines, and that is why we got a nice little allocation of Caparsa's 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva Doccio a Matteo. Galloni said the wine was "STELLAR" and also said he "was blown away," awarding the wine with a 95 point score, one of his highest-rated Chiantis of the vintage!
- It's a stunning example of Sangiovese from Radda in Chianti, one of the greatest spots on the planet to cultivate the grape.
- This single vineyard (Doccia a Matteo) is old, hand-harvested, certified organic, and the wine produced from it is a reflection of place, grape, and individual.
- Just over 500 cases were produced, and Caparsa's wines are beloved in their home country. It's amazing that "little old Table Wine" gets any :)
- It tastes amazing, and it will age and improve. "Dark, ample, and layered, the 2019 possesses remarkable depth and nuance right out of the gate. Black cherry, lavender, licorice, coffee and new leather all flesh out in this deceptively mid-weight Riserva. Impressive. Drink 2025 - 2039." - Vinous Media.
