As we near our 17th Thanksgiving at Table Wine, I've been on the hunt for whites that bring plenty of freshness to the table but have enough character to stand up to a big meal. The J. Mourat Blanc fits the bill beautifully, and if you love classically styled Loire Valley whites, you'll want to keep some of this in your fridge.
A blend of certified organic Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay fermented in stainless steel, this is wonderfully aromatic, with notes of ripe pear, citrus zest, white flowers, wet stone, and fresh herbs. Crisp and vibrant, it offers a lovely mix of citrus and orchard fruit backed by the salty minerality that's a trademark of white wines from this part of the Loire Valley. It's refreshing, satisfying, and easy to drink.
It's on sale for just $12.99/bottle, too! That's more than 20% off the regular, and more-than-fair, price of $16.99.
Just an hour south of Nantes lies Fiefs Vendéens, the westernmost wine region in the Loire Valley. Vignobles Mourat is one of the top estates of this tiny seaside appellation, and the influence of the Atlantic is unmistakable in this wine's bright acidity, saline minerality, and energy.
For fans of dry Vouvray and crisp Albariño, this is a wine you'll want on the table. It's terrific with seafood, of course, but I also love the idea of pouring it alongside roast turkey, savory stuffing, roasted vegetables, and all the other flavors that make Thanksgiving such a great meal.
That combination of orchard fruit, citrus, and salty minerality is just what you want when the table is loaded with rich and savory dishes. We also have J. Mourat's Rouge on sale currently too, and it's equally attractive for drinking with or without tasty meals.
My advice is to pick up a few bottles of each. You'll be in good shape for fall drinking and holiday meals!
