Chateau l’Orangerie is one of those under-the-radar estates I love to recommend. Estate-grown fruit, the classic Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon blend I look for in white Bordeaux, and a focus on balance over flash.
I’ve always had a soft spot for White Bordeaux, and this is a great reminder of why. In a world full of Sancerre and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, this shows a different side of the grape. It’s still bright and crisp, but with a little more texture and a softer feel that just makes it easier to drink. And the price is right too.
With White Bordeaux, I love how Sauvignon brings the freshness and lift, while Semillon adds a little texture. It all comes together in a wine that’s lively but never sharp. Look for notes of ripe citrus, green apple, peach, and a savory herbal note that finishes clean, dry, and satisfying.
If you like Sauvignon Blanc but want something a bit rounder and less taut, I think you’ll really like this. If you were in Bordeaux, you'd drink this with oysters, but it also pairs perfectly with grilled shrimp, trout almandine, or goat cheese and baguette.
