Talk about a remarkable points-to-price ratio! The 2023 Wrath Pinot Noir 115/667 scored 95 points with Vinous Media, and it comes to you at less than $45!
That is very rare territory, especially when you're talking about a serious, small-production Pinot Noir. And Vinous doesn't hand out 95-point scores lightly...
Just 302 cases of this were produced from the glorious 2023 vintage, and we were able to secure a 48-bottle allocation. Needless to say, this will move out fast, and there's no more available once these are gone.
The 115 and 667 refer to the two Dijon Pinot Noir clones used here, each bringing something different to the finished wine. Clone 115 gives the wine aromatic lift, red-fruited character, and finesse, while 667 contributes darker fruit, structure, and concentration. They're used in equal parts, with each clone fermented and aged separately before being blended. The result is a Pinot that manages to be both delicate and assertively flavored.
Don't be shocked when you see the pale, translucent color of this wine. It is not a shy wine at all! Stick your nose into the glass, and you'll find explosive aromas of cherry, black cherry, blood orange, hibiscus tea, cinnamon, and leather. The palate is complex, elegant, and silky, with classic Central Coast Pinot character, great depth, and plenty of length.
All of the fruit comes from Wrath's oldest Pinot Noir vines in their San Saba Vineyard, just below the Santa Lucia Highlands. Those old vines help explain the combination of delicacy and concentration here. The wine feels almost weightless in the glass, but there is remarkable depth and complexity once you take a sip.
