It's the most wonderful time of the year, and no, it's not Christmas. Dry Rose Season is in full swing, and the Rosner Zweigelt Rose is a staff favorite that we predict will become a customer favorite :)
The young Stefan Rosner is one of Austria's rising star winemakers, and he crafts his rose with Austria's native Zweigelt grape. Oft-compared to Pinot Noir, it gives us a beautifully dry, crisp, and refreshing pink wine that provides thirst-quenching deliciousness.
2023 Stefan Rosner Rose Vom Zweigelt
Team Table Wine's Favorite Dry Rose of 2024!
It is hard to put into words how much I love this wine, but I'll do my best. Stefan's bone-dry rose is every bit as good as a top-flight Provencal rose. It just costs a lot less, and it delivers wonderful aromas and flavors of delicate red berries, green herbs, rose petal, and integrated minerality.
Stefan follows in the footsteps of his father Norbert, making natural wines from their certified organic vineyards in Langenlois, just north of Vienna. Farmers first and winemakers second, they subscribe to the notion that good wine is made in the vineyard, a philosophy followed by all the great vignerons of the world. In their effort to let their healthy grapes "speak," they ferment with native yeasts and add minimal sulfur, just before bottling.
Zweigelt is one of Austria's most important and widely planted red wine varieties, and it shares some of the same characteristics as Pinot Noir. Low in tannin, high in acidity, and highly aromatic, it's a perfect grape for making expressive dry rose. This is certainly expressive, and all I can say is keep up the good work because you're making my job (selling wine) easy :)
Smelling of crushed raspberry, strawberry, lime zest, dried rose, green herb, and saline minerality, it lights up the palate with mouthwatering acidity and wonderful purity. I love the focus, precision, and overall refreshing character of this wonderful dry rose, and I think you will too.
We just landed 10 cases (120 bottles), and that's all we'll get for the vintage. If you love dry rose, you're going to want to get some of this. Trust me....
